13 NET Scheme News Issue 47 12 NET Scheme News Issue 47 21st Century Conferece English Day Brings Festive Fun to RCHK Island West Hong Chi Morninghope School English Day On 11 December 2024,our school hosted a magical English Day with a Christmas theme. The event, which combined fun, learning and holiday cheer, was made even more special with the support of six colleagues from the NET Section.With three team members from the Advisory Teaching Team and three from the Regional NET Coordinating Team joining, the entire school community came together for a day filled with festive activities, storytelling, music and laughter. A Festive Collaboration Our school staff worked closely with the NET Section officers to deliver a series of inclusive and engaging sessions. Each team member supported multiple classes throughout the day, ensuring that every student had the opportunity to participate in the activities. The event was designed with a focus on fostering students' English language skills while celebrating the holiday season in a range of fun and meaningful ways. A Day Packed with Christmas-themed Activities Students had the chance to rotate through a variety of 30-minute activity sessions, each combining creativity, movement and interactive learning to ensure that every student could participate and enjoy the experience. Here are examples of some of the activities: A Show-Stopping Musical Performance The highlight of the day was the two Christmas- themed musical performances held in the school hall—one for the primary students and one for the secondary students. These performances featured Christmas carols, humour, and even a surprise visit from a naughty Grinch! The performances began with lively renditions of classic Christmas songs, with students clapping and singing along.The excitement reached its peak when a mischievous Grinch, dressed in a bright green suit, stormed the stage to steal Christmas hats from the performers.The students were delighted by the Grinch’s antics. The performances wrapped up with a spirited sing-along of ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’ leaving everyone in high spirits. A Celebration of Learning and Inclusion English Day was much more than just a celebration of Christmas — it was a platform for students to practise their English skills in an inclusive, supportive, and joyful environment. The activities and performances were thoughtfully designed to ensure that every student, regardless of ability, could participate meaningfully and feel a part of the celebration. A Day to Remember The event was a heartwarming reminder of the power of festive fun in education, bringing together language, creativity and community. Our English Day was a resounding success, leaving students, teachers and NET Section colleagues with lasting memories of joy and connection.
