The Roaming Mic Challenge
The NET Section has launched the Roaming Mic Challenge to encourage primary and secondary students to use spoken English in an authentic way that highlights confidence and agency, and to create a space that celebrates English language learning with a spirit of optimism and fun. This challenge is designed as an ongoing, school-wide English-speaking activity where a microphone is shared with participating schools to maximise opportunities for students to speak English on campus and in the community.
Students are invited to produce short reels (40-seconds to 1-minute) in which they express ideas and thoughts on a variety of topics, ranging from fast, punchy questions and street interview-style clips to commentaries on issues of interest.
To facilitate the implementation of the Roaming Mic Challenge, support services from Advisory Teachers and Regional NET Coordinators of the NET Section are available.
School NETs are encouraged to play an active role in guiding students through the process of producing reels. Their involvement will help create a language-rich environment where students feel confident using spoken English in authentic and creative ways.
Selected reels will be uploaded to the Roaming Mic Instagram account for sharing with the community. This provides an engaging platform to further enhance student expression and creativity in English.
Interested schools should complete the RMC online application form from 3 February to 27 February 2026. Enrolment is subject to a limited quota and will be confirmed upon acceptance.
